Social, Humanitarian and Cultural

TOPIC 1: The Legal and Social Definitions of Gender Identity

Once upon a time, homosexuality was considered a mental disorder and was something that was treated by psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. However, in the last decade, there has been significance regarding the acceptance and the development of the LGBTQ+ community. The current state of the LGBTQ+ community still does vary from country to country . Some countries still continue to have conversion therapy in order for their deviant LGBTQ+ community to become “normal” again. Other countries have laws in place that help raise awareness and bring about acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. This committee must implement new and/or improved regulations and suggestions, so as to determine what will happen to those in the LGBTQ+ community.

topic 2: The Impact of Private Military Corporations on Human Rights

Private military corporations are on the rise, and with it a variety of other issues. Various countries have differing positions towards the use of PMCs, and there needs to be more of a consensus on how to approach these entities. Currently, countries outsource work to PMCs in order to reduce costs and for a multitude of other reasons. These aren’t governmental organizations and it yields more dangerous consequences like human rights violations and abuse of power. Using these corporations also threaten other states’ sovereignties as other countries may use them to promote instability wherever they wish.  It is up to this committee in order to determine how to go about in order to use and possibly regulate PMCs or perhaps change international militant action everywhere.
